Visit to Mt. Batur
I put together a short 4 minute drone film of the volcano, see it on YouTube here.
The past month I have been living in Seminyak, in Bali. This weekend to take a break from coding, I went on a trip to Mt. Batur, an inactive Volcano about 2 hours north of Seminyak. There are many guided hikes up the mountain with beautiful sunrise views. They require to wake up at 1 or 2 AM to depart. I chose to take the option of riding up the mountain on a motorbike and watching the sunrise from a cafe. There we had coffee and breakfast and enjoyed the views. It was actually a good place to nap, with blankets and cushioned seats. This was much cheaper than a guided tour and less harsh with the 1 or 2am wake up.
Soft Launch of Squad Goals
Last week I announced the Web3 protocol ‘Squad Goals’ which is an innovative protocol for social interaction, personal development and goal setting. This week we submitted it for the Encode X Gnosis Hackathon and deployed a testnet version.
Here is a link to the monorepo Github. It is built on NextJS and Scaffold ETH 2.
We submitted the project to the Buidl Guidl, view it here.
A live version deployed to Gnosis Chiado test net can be viewed here.
This app solves the problem of people creating individual challenges, of the kind, ‘go to the gym for 30 days, do 100 pushups for 100 days, code every day for 100 days,’ and so on. People create these challenges and work on them by themselves, or with a friend, sometimes they may post on their social media. This is not standardized and it can be so much more beneficial for everyone if someone just decided to make an app around this and is easy to use and that creates a kind of institution around this practice. This is the role of Blockchains. This is how money was created and how human organization started. They started by these loosely formed ‘memes’ that were repeated, survived and propagated because they proved to be valuable. This is the direction of the application of Blockchain technology. We will see more and more applications of Ethereum to things like this, where a social consensus and reputation are enabled by this technology. They are permission-less protocols that are open to anyone to use, they are not controlled and dependent by any one centralized company.
Our next steps with this are to improve the design and the UI, do some internal testing and deploy it on live Ethereum L2’s. We will launch a ProductHunt Post and twitter campaign. Stay tuned for more updates! I’m excited to use it myself to create ‘100 days of 100 pushups’ and ‘no coffee for 10 days’ challenges.
